London Mayor’s tech fund investments win at UKBAA Awards
SIX companies backed by the Mayor of London’s early-stage technology fund, the London Co-Investment Fund (LCIF), have been named winners at the UKBAA Awards 2018.
They include software security firm VChain, which won best investment in disruptive tech; data science hub Pivigo, winner of the best investment in a high growth female founder award; and Flock, a provider of drone insurance, which won best investment in IoT/SmartTech.
Hummingbird Technologies, a provider of crop analysis software, was named one to watch in AI; skin cancer specialist Skin Analytics won best investment in AI; and Chirp, a sound connectivity platform, was named one to watch in IoT/SmartTech.

The UKBAA Awards, now in their 12th year, are open to high-growth companies who have received early-stage finance, as well as angel investors and syndicates, early-stage venture capital and crowdfunding platforms.
The awards received a record-breaking number of nominations, 13 of which came from LCIF, which has to date invested in 123 technology companies.

Rajesh Agrawal, deputy mayor for business, said the winners underline the mayor’s support for the most creative tech businesses and demonstrate that London “remains open to talent and innovation”.
Irra Ariella Khi, chief executive of VChain, added: “It is a fantastic acknowledgement of all the hard work Team VChain is doing, and one that has immediate visibility within investor circles. It’s a small world and an extremely helpful endorsement.”
