THE CAMBRIDGE Centre for Alternative Finance (CCAF) has announced that Queen Maxima of the Netherlands (pictured) will be a keynote speaker at its annual conference on Friday 29 June.

She will deliver a speech on digital transformation and financial inclusion in her capacity as the UN Secretary-General’s Special Advocate for Inclusive Finance for Development, the CCAF said.

An announcement from the Royal House of the Netherlands revealed that fintech will be a key focus in Queen Maxima’s speech.

“One of the areas the Queen will be focusing on in her speech is fintech, a range of new, innovative technologies for delivering financial services,” said the announcement. “Fintech offers considerable scope for making these services accessible and more customer-oriented, thus increasing their use.

“One important precondition is that legislation is in place to guarantee security and privacy. At the same time, however, overly strict legislation could limit uptake.”

The CCAF, which also produces well-regarded alternative finance research, said that the theme of this year’s annual conference is ‘Reimagining Alternative Finance: Global Perspectives, Local Insights.”

Other keynote speakers include Greg Medcraft, director of the OECD Directorate for Financial and Enterprise Affairs; Professor Njuguna Ndung’u, the immediate Former Governor of the Central Bank of Kenya; and Miriam Koreen, Deputy Director and Head of SME & Entrepreneurship Division at the OECD.

Other confirmed speakers and panellists are from universities, as well as institutions such as the International Finance Corporation, the UK Financial Conduct Authority and Lloyds Banking Group.
