Funding Circle joins stars such as Twiggy to back independent bookshop campaign
FUNDING Circle has partnered with 15 celebrities including actor Richard E. Grant, comedian Michael Palin and model Twiggy (pictured) to support a campaign backing independent bookshops.
Each celebrity has been pictured reading their favourite book as part of an awareness drive run by small business campaign group Just A Card,
The peer-to-peer lender backed Just A Card’s alternative to Black Friday last year – that promoted shopping at independent stores – and is now supporting its Just A Book campaign.
The 15 stars have been photographed by renowned photographer Charlie Grey and their portraits will run across the London Underground in a series of adverts from 17 June, aiming to make consumers understand how their purchasing choices have a huge impact on the wider community and the future of the high street.

“Everyone loves independents and wants to support them, but often we don’t appreciate how vital each and every purchase is,” Sarah Hamilton, founder of Just A Card, said.
“Just a book, just a card, just a coffee, they all add up and are critical to small business success. We’re challenging shoppers to think about where they spend their money, and show how much they value the independent shops that make our high streets so special.”

James Meekings, co-founder of Funding Circle, said the platform’s philosophy was that “when small businesses thrive, everyone benefits.”
“Independent bookshops and retailers are important to the economy, and our local communities. We want everyone in the UK to get behind this campaign,” he added.
